Principal Product Manager - Civil Tech

Location: San Francisco, CA (Remote)
Work Schedule: Standard 40 hours, 9 am – 5 pm (Pacific Time)
Compensation: $71.98 – $87.98 per hour

Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Product Manager to lead large-scale initiatives within the civil technology sector. In this role, you will define and drive strategic direction for critical digital projects that enhance government service delivery to the public. You will partner with government agencies and cross-functional teams to develop innovative, user-centered products, leveraging your expertise in stakeholder engagement, agile methodologies, and modern software practices. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on civic technology, helping agencies build capacity and implement sustainable best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set and execute product strategy for large-scale initiatives, aligning with organizational long-term goals (40%)
• Lead cross-functional teams to deliver impactful products that improve government services and public experiences
• Engage and align stakeholders by clearly communicating product vision, strategy, and progress (25%)
• Collaborate in project scoping and cultivation, including developing statements of work and effort estimations (20%)
• Mentor and partner with other product managers and discipline members, sharing best practices and fostering professional growth (10%)
• Represent the product discipline, contributing to thought leadership and strategic initiatives within the organization (5%)
• Identify and mitigate risks in product development, ensuring high-quality delivery and value creation

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of product management experience, with proven success leading multiple products or services
• Extensive experience in product advisory or consulting roles with government, civic tech, or regulated industries
• Strong background in B2B product management, particularly working with government or large enterprise clients
• Demonstrated leadership across multiple teams and products, with excellent judgment in product development and risk mitigation
• Exceptional communication skills and ability to manage diverse stakeholders at all levels
• Proficiency in agile methodologies, user research interpretation, usability testing, and data analytics for informed decision-making
• Ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term strategic vision
• A passion for improving government services and ensuring equitable access for all
• Curiosity about emerging AI technologies and a responsible approach to their application

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience in civic technology or public sector digital transformation
• Deep understanding of modern software development practices and product lifecycle management
• Demonstrated ability to influence and inspire multidisciplinary teams
• Knowledge of sustainable product practices and capacity-building within large organizations
